Memphis Pool Renovation & Remodeling
Ready to bring your tired gunite, fiberglass, or vinyl liner pool back to life? American Pool Techs’ team of skilled artisans is here to help. From resurfacing rough gunite, regelcoating faded fiberglass, replacing worn vinyl liners, or adding new features and outdoor living upgrades to an existing pool — we handle every level of renovation across the Mid-South.
From Cosmetic Refreshes to Total Tear-Outs
Many Mid-South pools have been built over the years. Plaster wears thin, gelcoats and resins break down, and unfortunately liners get tears and holes. Tile lines pop, coping cracks, equipment ages out, and what was state-of-the-art twenty years ago looks dated next to a new build. We handle every level of that — from a one-week resurface to a complete tear-down-and-rebuild remodel that looks like a brand new pool build.
Resurface & Replaster
The most common request for a gunite pool renovation — typically driven by roughness or simply cosmetic. The right finish for your pool depends on budget, look, and how long you want it to last. Here are the resurfacing options we offer:
- Standard white marcite plaster — 8 to 10 year life expectancy
- Tinted marcite plaster — 8 to 10 year life expectancy
- Quartz aggregate / Quartzscapes — 15 to 20 year life expectancy
- Pebble / Stonescapes — 15 to 20 year life expectancy
- Hydrazzo / Polishedscapes — 20 to 30 year life expectancy
Waterline Tile & Coping
Waterline tile and coping replacement is a natural part of the life of a gunite pool. The best time to consider replacing them is when the pool is drained for your resurface. This allows all three components of a gunite renovation to be done at once — it saves you time, money, and the risk of damaging a freshly resurfaced pool by tearing into the tile and coping a couple years later.
Tile options: Porcelain, deco, glass, glass mosaics, and natural stone.
Coping options: Travertine, flagstone, limestone, marble, and concrete cantilever.
Project timeline: 1 week for a resurface only, 2 to 3 weeks for resurface + tile + coping. Every resurface job includes up to 1 week of brushing and strict pH maintenance for the first couple of weeks after completion.
Refinish & Revive Fiberglass
Faded gelcoat and chalking pool surfaces don’t have to mean a full replacement. Fiberglass pools can be brought back to life with the right refinishing approach and the right products.
- reGelcoat resurface — restores the original gelcoat finish
- Epoxy paint application — durable, cost-effective alternative
- Add waterline tile — modernize the look
- Step and bench repair — fix cracks and surface damage
Project timeline: 1 to 2 weeks. Once epoxy paint is applied, the surface needs a minimum of 72 hours to cure before introducing any water.
Vinyl Liner Replacement
A vinyl liner doesn’t last forever — tears, staining, and fading mean it’s time. Liner replacement is the cheapest way to make a vinyl pool look like a brand new build without the new-build price tag. While the pool is open for liner replacement, it’s also the perfect time to refresh the coping and steps too.
- Vinyl liner replacement — new pattern, fresh fit
- Epoxy paint CP2 aluminum pool coping — refinish or recolor
- Epoxy paint plastic molded steps — restore worn step finishes
- Fiberglass step repair and repaint
Project timeline: 1 week for a liner change-out only, 1 to 2 weeks when painting coping or refinishing fiberglass/plastic steps.
Concrete Will Crack — So Let’s Replace It Right
The average lifespan of a properly installed concrete pool deck is 12 to 15 years. Properly installed means solid sub-surface prep, post-hole pillars on outer edges, and wire mesh with fibers to strengthen the concrete. Most pool decks fail early because somebody cut corners on the prep work — that’s not how we do it. We catch deck issues early because we’re already at these pools every week for weekly service.
Beyond standard concrete, there are many decking materials to choose from when it’s time to replace your tired, cracked deck. A few of the options we offer:
- Broomed-finish concrete
- Limestone hybrid exposed aggregate microwash mixes
- Stamped concrete (many stamp patterns available)
- Travertine pavers
- Marble pavers
- Porcelain tile
- Flagstone, brick, teak, and other custom material options
Why hire a pool contractor for decking? Pool decks aren’t just flat slabs — slopes and drainage around a swimming pool get technical fast. We’ve been doing this since 2006, and we get it right the first time. Renovating your deck is also a natural time to add outdoor living features — pavilions, kitchens, fire features — while everything is already torn up.
Drop Your Power Bill, Upgrade Your Pool
Twenty-year-old single-speed pumps and analog timers cost a fortune to run. We retrofit modern variable-speed equipment, salt systems, LED lighting, and phone-based automation onto existing pools — and most customers see a noticeable drop in their electric bill the next month. (Beyond renovations, we also handle one-off equipment repairs and diagnostics.)
- Variable-speed pump conversions
- Salt chlorine generator install
- LED lighting retrofits
- Smartphone-based automation systems
- Heater and heat pump replacement
